HEROINE
ヒロイン
At the initiative of the Toshio Saeki Foundation, Fariboles Galerie is bringing to life an original statue from the work of the Japanese artist.
This new creation draws its inspiration from a rare quadriptych of illustrations by Toshio Saeki, taken from a little-known issue of Yaseijidai magazine dating from 1974, a pivotal period in the artist's career.
We chose this because of the evocative and melancholy power of the illustrations, which are accompanied by the poignant words
I'm not your heroine any more
もう私はあなたのヒロインであることをやめました
Toshio Saeki's expressive line captures with intensity the passage from childhood to adulthood, embodied by the schoolgirl who becomes a heroine with a face imbued with deep, enigmatic emotion.
Numerous iconic elements, such as the character's uniform and the traditional Japanese ichimatsu ningyo doll, steeped in history and a symbol of innocence, are particularly significant in the artist's work.
Finally, the deliberate choice of black, white and red for this statue is in keeping with Toshio Saeki's original illustration and early work, particularly in his book Gokurakucho 獄落帖.
Our shipments will start at the end of November.
